Caring Creatures
Crafting with kids is a wonderful way to foster creativity, imagination, and a sense of accomplishment. In this blog post, we make Caring Creatures using pompoms, embellishments, googly eyes, and a hot glue gun. These charming and quirky creatures are fun to create and can be a comfort when going through changes.
Materials Needed
- Assorted pompoms (various sizes and colours)
- Googly eyes (assorted sizes)
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Felt sheets (optional for additional embellishments)
- Pipe cleaners (optional for arms or antennae)
- Small decorative items (buttons, beads, sequins, etc.)
- Craft foam (for creating accessories like wings or hats)
- Scissors
- Markers (for drawing features if desired)
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Prepare
Set up a crafting area with a clean and organised space. Ensure that you have all your materials within reach and that children are supervised while using hot glue guns.
Step 2: Select Your Pompoms and items for your creature
Choose a variety of pompoms/foam pieces in different colours and sizes. These will form the bodies of your Caring Creatures. Get as creative as you would like. They can have 4 arms and 9 noses if you like.
Step 3: Add Googly Eyes
Using hot glue, carefully attach the googly eyes to your creature. Experiment with different eye sizes and placements to give each creature its unique personality.
Step 4: Get Creative with Accessories
Enhance your creatures by adding embellishments, felt, pipe cleaners or other decorative items you may have. You can create tiny hats, wings, antennas, or any other imaginative features you like.
Step 5: Use Pipe Cleaners for Arms or Antennae
If you’d like your creatures to have arms or antennae, simply cut and bend pipe cleaners and attach them securely using hot glue.
Step 6: Bring Out the Personality
If desired, use markers to draw mouths, noses, or other facial features. Let your imagination run wild.
Step 7: Share the Love
The best part of creating Caring Creatures is sharing them with others. Encourage children to gift their creatures to friends, family members or even as a random act of kindness to brighten someone’s day. They can also be used as a comfort toy when going through changes.
